Eminent businessman and former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Kalu has urged Nigerians to support their leaders with prayers.
Kalu in his democracy day message signed
by his Special Adviser, Oyekunle Oyewumi maintained that current
security challenge facing the country is a threat to our nascent
democracy if not properly managed.
He said, “As we celebrate 2014 democracy
day, we should all reflect on our contribution to the society as
individuals and as a nation.
“Democracy is about the people and their well being. “I appeal to our leaders to make life meaningful for the people by providing the basic needs of life”.
The former governor explained that the
boko haram insurgency is not President Jonathan’s problem alone, adding
that irrespective of tribe, religion, political affiliation and any other divide, we must collectively work towards overcoming the security challenge.
“Every Nigerian is a stakeholder in the Nigerian project. Our unity is paramount and Nigeria will continue to wax strong despite this challenge”
Kalu acknowledged the efforts of those who fought for the enthronement of democracy in Nigeria.
He charged the people at the helm of affairs to establish a feedback mechanism with their constituents as a way of promoting good governance.
