Former
Abia State Governor, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu has called on all Nigerians to
support President Goodluck Jonathan irrespective of political
affiliation and pray for the peace of the country.
Kalu, while urging all Nigerians to come together in unity and fight the common enemy, maintained that it was only then that the nation could surmount its security challenge.
Speaking during a peace advocacy visit to Governor Gabriel Suswam of Benue State yesterday, he stressed the need for the leaders of the country to show leadership skills so that the entity called Nigeria could be sustained.
“Nigeria must support the president. We must stand up to be counted that we are Nigerians irrespective of our party differences. Nigeria needs to be one. We must educate ourselves on the need for us to be one.”
Kalu who disclosed that he was in the state to confer with the Governor on the need for unity in the country and the ruling party, the PDP, emphasised that it was only then that the present challenges confronting the nation could be surmounted.
“I have come to confer with Governor Suswam on the peaceful movement of the country and the unity of our party, the PDP. It is no longer news that the PDP has a big challenge at hand. I came to confer to make sure the party surmounts its challenges. We need to stand up to show leadership and sustain the entity called Nigeria.
While sympathizing with Suswam on the recent Fulani herdsmen invasion of the state in which his (Suswam’s) convoy was also attacked, he urged him to seek for peaceful ways of resolving the matter so that his people would continue to live peacefully with other tribes.
He commended Suswam on the execution of laudable projects such as the international market, the greater Makurdi water works and the Benue State University Teaching Hospital and enjoined the people of the state to support him.
Responding, Governor Suswam, who warmly welcomed Kalu to the state maintained that it was high time Nigerians put politics aside and work for the unity of the country.
“Without the unity of this country, there cannot be a Nigeria. Nigeria is gradually sliding to its precipice. That is why we must put politics aside and ensure the unity of the country.”
