The former governor of Abia State and business mogul, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu has stressed the need for people of the South East part of the country to unite to seek a common goal that will uplift the entire region. Kalu, who spoke recently whenNdigbo in the US under the aegis of Pan Ndi-Igbo Foundation (PNF USA) bestowed him with the “2013.
Advocacy for Justice Award” in Dallas Texas, noted that the moment the people are united, they would be able to realise their potentials in all spheres of nation building.
The award is in recognition of Kalu’s service and immense contributions to the wellbeing of Ndi-Igbo globally.
Kalu said that Ndi-Igbo are gifted people in all areas of human endeavours but that they lack love among themselves, while he urged them to ensure that love exists among them.
The former governor said he was always disturbed when Ndi-Igbo cannot take decisions on issues affecting fellow Ndi-Igbo, saying: “I have always felt agitated on issues concerning my tribe because as a Nigerian, I am first an Igbo man.’’
He, however, disclosed that it was as a result of his agitation against the plight of Igbos that former President Olusegun Obasanjo placed a ban on his airline, Slok and other businesses while he was governor.
He also listed the repair of the Enugu/Aba, and Onitsha/Enugu expressway as one of the major issues he condemned the Obasanjo’ administration of neglect.
According to him, the commitment of Ndi-Igbo now would go a long way to reposition the new generation of the region.
Earlier, while presenting the award, PNF-USA national chairman, Mr. Geoffrey Nzeadibe, had said that members of the group, unanimously voted to recognise Kalu with the prestigious award for his services to Ndi-Igbo globally and Nigeria as a whole.
“We sincerely commend you and thank God that someone like you is able to emerge at these trying times for Ndi-Igbo.
